I'm thinkin' it's a definite yes, well, maybe...

"I keep hearing rumors that I'm going to MotoGP. I think everyone else knows
a little more than I do. All I know is that Kevin Schwantz looks like he's
trying to put together a team. I'm contracted to race over here in '08. I do
know that I'm one of the top two candidates for the ride, and I think it
could happen if I want it to. That's all I really know. Definitely when it
comes time to test and maybe get a wild card, I'm going to give it a go, and
see how it is. I'm not saying I'm going to do that. Because I might not even
like it. I have no clue. The rumors are the rumors, and I really don't know
exactly what is going on. It's still going to be a little while before that
gets all figured out."

CN reports from Barcelona that the team will likely be Aspar, although
they are also looking at Yamaha. Schwantz is tapped because of his
credibility and his Suzuki connections. The riders they mention, though,
are De Angelis, Dovisioso, Elias, Toseland. Only one bike next year, and
then two in '09. Kevin describes the role as a rider coach and liaison
to Suzuki. He reminds that Spies is signed here for next year, and that
he's not sure that Spies wants to do GP anyway.

But a positive wild card appearance and it all could build momentum.
It's the right bike, sized for a normal human being and with momentum
going for it and Bridgestones under it. Maybe - if it's equal to the
factory team machines, and what if they end up on the Dunlops? Could
easily happen, with Limey rumors reported about Tech 3 going with
Edwards and Hopkins (!!) on Bridgestones. So would Bennie actually
consider that? But if Hopkins really moves on, who gets that seat? Chris
V's contract is up as well, and a re-sign might well need to include #1
status. If so, why not Speez there?

Does that sound like someone who wants to prove they're the best in the
world? "Because I might not even like it" What's that all about?

Maybe a very smart, knowledgable young man who knows what a fixed scene
GP is today. All one has to do is look at Hayden to see what it means to
be American and in MotoGP - do you think he really likes it there? Throw
in that Spies is 5-11 and 160 lbs and it just gets worse. I'd bet if
these were still 990s he'd be much more interested. But the word flowing
back this way is all about the 800s being nothing but Super250s. And
Spies knows how the GP game is played. Me, I actually like seeing a guy
saying, "I can do without all that".

"Prove they're best in the world" by going to GP? You almost have to
European to even think like that...

Prove what and to who?
To me it sounds like someone who has a fairly good grasp of the politics
invovled with MGP..

Nice one huh? A Bond hand grenade if there ever was one!
