I am going to ship my bike to Edmonton, Alberta and, after my nephew's
wedding there, I want to tour the Rockies and any scenic roads in that
section of US and Canada.
In have heard that US highway #1 is nice but am not sure what section and is
it really slow going with a 20mph town every 10 miles?
I'd like to see some of the big trees like redwoods. I have also heard that
the 'going to the sun road' in Glacier national park is great but not sure
from which direction.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice route to take? Generally,
I'd like to avoid the big cities. I will have from the end of July until
whenever I want to come home.( Probably a month)
I'm driving an 86 Yamaha Venture.
thanks

Uh, that defeats the purpose of having a "touring bike",  don't it?

Hi Brian
Uh, I have already made the trip out to Utah and Colorado on the bike and to
the west coast by car. It would be a long boring haul there and back to
Ottawa the third time around. And, as I said, my wife is accompanying me by
air to a wedding (where we uppity folks wear pressed suits etc, not overalls
and plaid shirts like you might wear where you come from) and then I am
going on my own on the bike to finish what I missed the last time when it
threatened to snow in the Rockies.

Uh, Did you have some west coast area travel advice for me? You probably
have one place in mind ;-)

Besides getting some electric gloves? Noop.

The fact is, I have never trailered my bike, or had it shipped anywhere.
I bought mine to ride, and that's all.
That's what my '03 FLHTI(let alone any other Touring bike) was
designed for, after all.
It worked flawlessly when I rode from NJ to Cal, and back, in March.
VERY Chilly outside (18 degrees on many days) so that's why I
mentioned the gloves above.
No maps... no cares. Just told the bike, "West!"... and it went there.
Then after a week exploring Nevada, I told her: "Home."
  And I arrove home.

Regarding the "attire" comment, well, that just shows what an ignorant
little trailer Queeny you truly are.

 LOL
I had a 2000 Goldwing on the Utah trip with heated grips and a heated vest
which I sure was glad to have crossing the great divide and in the cold rain
south of Lake Superior. The Venture isn't wired up yet but I think I'll go
with the gloves this time. The grips only heat your palms and are a pain to
install.
