I've only just hooked up to this group and am picking through the crap to
find the good posts, so apologies for a *very* late response!

You are both absolutely right - I have an '03 Bonnie and an '05 T100,
pictured here with the original cans on them:

I have fitted Norman Hyde 'HBS105' silencers to them and they are, if
anything, almost *too much* like the original sound! (Mutes are supplied
with the silencers but the fitting is a kludge, so I have avoided using them
so far, despite a neighbour moaning that the bikes make his TV room room
'vibrate'!)

Re-jetting is essential, but if anyone is considering the silencers (which I
believe are 'straight through') and they can afford it, I would recommend
also fitting the 'bellmouth air intakes' also which will require an even
bigger jump in the re-jetting:

As far as I know it goes like this:

Stock bike - Jet No. 110
Silencer only upgrade - Jet No. 114
Silencer and Bellmouths - Jet No. 128

But check with Norman Hyde for yourselves - don't take my word for it!
Anyway, they look much better and much more like the originals than the ones
they come with nowadays - see:

(Hope this wasn't all too late to be of any use!!)
