I may have the opportunity to purchase a '53 Triumph 650, that I think
is a Thunderbird. I haven't seen it yet, but it was described by a
friend who's told be about it as being in pretty rough shape. How much
cash would you bring when you go look at it, knowing what I know?

none. until i see the bike, it has zero value. you have to
know what you're buying. and if you don't know what
restoring a bike entails, you need to bring an expert. pay
for someone's knowledge.
to me, ruff shape means it's a piece of junk needing
everything. and parts for that will be VERY expensive.
check out the restoration parts dealers.
you can restore anything with enough money. do you have an
unlimited budget and the expertise? if this is your first
resto.....well, good luck.
