Hi!
Bought a beauty of an XS750 last year, but shifter started popping out
of 2nd gear, now won't engage in 1st or 2nd. I understand this is a
common problem with the old Yamis, but am not a mechanic myself.
Anybody know what the source of that would be, and know the solution
(including what parts are needed)? I have a service manual and a parts
CD, so if you could reference something, I can try to find the part on
the CD and see where it goes. I'd sure like to get this up and running
again.
Thanks a bunch for any help you provide!

Don't know if this will apply to your problem, but I had a problem with
an old yammie. It would shift down into first but wouldn't shift up.
I drained the oil, cracked the case and found two quarter gears, one
driven by the shifter shaft which drove the other which turned the
shift drum. I pulled off the shift drum partial gear, moved it one
tooth and put it back. Bike shifted fine, and still does.
cheers
