My dad bought me a used 1981 XJ750RH Seca as a cheap project bike.
The battery need replacing, so he bought the one that the local bike
shop recommended. Now, a few months later, in a different state (so I
can’t question the bike shop), I’m putting stuff back together, and I
realized, after finding a loose electrical connector without a mate,
that the new battery was missing the battery level sensor. Will the
bike run without this sensor? I assume that it will only result in
the battery light on the console remaining lit, but I’m new to this
bike, so I don’t know.
Thanks!

Should run fine, I have the very same bike and the previous owner
disabled the battery sensor. As I recall he said that the sensor wire
was corroded and kept giving him problems. Now when I start up I just
have to hit the "check" button twice to stop the light from
flashing.
Have fun, its a great bike!

The standard battery (most models) is a Yuasa Yumicron YB14L-A2 12 volt lead
acid/antimony battery. It is rated for 14 ampere-hours (at10 hour discharge
rate), and 190 cold-cranking amps. 14 AH(ampere-hours) is a measure of the
battery's capacity, and 190CCA (cold-cranking amps) is a measure of how much
current the battery can supply to the starter when it is cold out.
(Seewww.yuasabatteries.com for lots of useful battery info.)
Yuasa also makes one of its GRT (Gas recombination technology)batteries that
will fit the bike, although it is not clear thatYamaha's battery sensor
system is compatible (it can easily be bypassed.) A catalyst material is
used to recombine the battery gasses so that the periodic addition of
distilled water is unnecessary.
[Bypassing the sensor is a simple as connecting the sensor wire to the
positive terminal on the battery.]

I have never tried bypassing the sensor but feel free to post in our XJ
community. You never know if the other XJ owners have already done that :).
