FZ1 isn't as exciting as my YZ

This is my first road bike. I have been riding the dirt for a long time
and now with gas getting out of hand I have a reason to justify a road bike.
After reading about every different bike I thought the FZ1 would be the best
for me. I wanted Superbike performance, but something a 6' 4" guy wouldn't
feel cramped on. I love the feel. Still a little cramped, but nothing I am
not used to, especially compared to my YZ. But................. I thought it
would have more snap!!!
All I can come up with is the it has to come down to gearing. The FZ1
has a better horsepower to weight ratio, but it doesn't scare me like my
dirt bike can.
Does anyone have any experience putting a larger rear sprocket on a FZ1?
I live in rural NW Oregon, so the opportunities to hit 12 grand just don't
seem to be there. Maybe I am not riding it right. I have only tapped into
9000 during this break in and the gearing is so tall that I am breaking the
spead limit.
Is this because the bike still only has 30 miles on it. Will the power
come after break in? Is this how road bikes come? I have never felt
something so smooth in my life, and going fast isn't a problem. I just kinda
was hoping for more ...... snap. Maybe that is only what my problem is. Are
dirt bikes just that more agro with the gearing. I think this bike should
compare pretty close to an R1 shouldn't it?
These are just my initial thoughts. I keep thinking that if I haven't
ridden motocross bikes, this bike would scare the shit out of me. Just
wondering if anyone else had this feeling. Like I said I am new to the road,
and going to work these past couple of days has been a blast!! Going to
carve up the road along the Clackamas River this weekend if the rain holds
out.

Thanks for any thoughts you may have. Please be nice.

It just takes a little getting used to, Josh.  One of my bikes is an R6, and
at first it seemed pretty gutless.  (My other bike is an FJR1300.)

Turns out I simply wasn't used to the R6, and I wasn't riding it the way it
was meant to be ridden.  Instead of riding it between 2,000 and 6,000 rpms,
I learned to make more frequent use of its 15,500 rpm redline.  Turns out it
will lift the front wheel at pretty decent speeds (dunno about you, but that
scares me) just by whacking the throttle when it's somewhere around 8,000
rpms or so.

After a while, you start to enjoy the smoothness and you even get used to
the sound of the music.  Your bike has plenty of enthusiasm available - even
more than my R6 does.  You just need a little more quality time with it, I
'spect.

dirt and street trannies are way apart. you can gear it down
and burn it up or get used to a lot more shifting.

It's an inline-4 engine, the power is at higher RPMs so you have to get used
to it.
If you wanted more low RPM power you should have gone with a V-twin
Personally, I love revvy inline 4s.

I am getting used to it. I was hoping for a 2-stroke hit. I just needed to
spool it up higher to get to it. It is very deceiving because it has nice
power on the bottom end also, I just needed to test the top. I did, and it
lifted the front end up with out hesitation. Man... when it climbed past 10
grand it was definetely on!!! It almost seems it is 2 bikes in one.
