I am doing a reseach for my oldest son who has a 1985 Yamaha Maxim.  A
lady backed out in front of him, one evening, on his way home from
work and had to ditch himself and bike.  Needless to say, it caused
some damage.  He is looking for three replacement parts to restore his
bike.  If there is anyone out there who has a bike to sell for parts
or knows how we can find these parts, he would sure appreciate hearing
from you.  His bike is sentimental to him as it was bike dear to him
and his grandfather, who has since passed away.  The three pieces that
he needs to replace are the speedometer, wire harness, and a muffler.

A Yamaha dealer gave me three discontinued Part Nos., but, I
don’t know if they would be of any value to anyone if they are
discontinued.  If they are of any value, I could supply the numbers to
anyone who might need them.

My son has done some research on his own and has learned that two
1986 models, the XJ700XN MAXIM and the (XJ700NC or XJ700NL MAXIM)
parts can be substituted.  I am not sure of his writing if the last
letter is a C or L, but I am sure some of you would know.

So, if there is anyone out there who can tell us where to find
the used parts for any of the above mentioned bikes, and the price of
the parts or who to contact, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanking all of you for your help.............sincerely,   Gabby

Try EBay--seem to be plenty of supplies there:

Dunno why I didn't notice the original post, but possibly I can help.

My '85 Maxim-X developed engine problems, and I gave it to a friend who
intended to rebuild it.  He eventually decided that it would be too much of
a project, and sold it to a used parts place.  I don't know if they might
still have the parts, but it wouldn't hurt to give them a call and ask.
(All three of those parts were in perfect condition on my bike at the time I
gave it to him.)

Try "The Bent Bike" in Lynnwood, WA.  It's just north of Seattle.  You
should be able to find them in Yahoo (or other) yellow pages for the area,
and if they have the parts, I'm sure they'll be glad to ship them to you.

There are lots of XJ's being parted out on Ebay. Just be patient and
something will come up. You can also try posting in our forum and may find
one of our XJ members selling these parts. Good luck.
