I just bought an 83 Yamaha Virago XV500K. It does not run, I checked the
spark and get spark on one side but not the other. It is a V-Twin, 2
Cylinder. Could I deduce that the Ignition Coil for the side that has no
spark is bad? Or could it be something else? I do not want to just start
buying things and replacing them, I want to replace what needs to be
replaced. If you can help, please let me know

Gary.
Go at it one step at the time and from the cheap end of the parts scale.
1) Swap the plugs to make sure it is not just a bad spark plug.
2) If the missing spark remains at the same side, swap the spark plug
ignition wires to eliminate the risk of it being a broken wire.
3) If the problem stays the same, swap the coils and see what happens.
That'll show you if it is the coil or something else, i.e. power to the
coils (which is highly unlikely).
Good luck,
Nils

You might have to bring it to a dealer. :( My '00 R6 is getting two
coils replaced right now.
They performed a diagnostic and found the problem right away for me.
