I'm an old guy who's been out of the cycle scene for a couple of years
because it's just to painful to throw a leg over a big bike anymore.
However, I've been missing riding in the wind, so I've recently purchased an
'89 Yamaha Riva 125. It starts just fine when cold, but after it's been run
more than 15 minutes or so, the starter won't engage the flywheel; it just
spins when I push the start button. But after sitting for maybe 45 minutes
to an hour, it will start again with no problem.
The Yamaha dealer charges about $175 for a new starter, but I'm hoping there
might be a cheaper solution. Any suggestions?
