I have had my 02 1100 custom in the shop several times since I've bought it,
in 03. They replaced the starter with the new improved one. Then my rear
end was smoked because things from the factory or dealer prep weren't done
correctly. Now I have the 3 yr. yes warranty, and took my bike in to my
local dealer and they are saying that Yamaha is going to have to tell them
what to do.... I asked what do you mean by that and the service manager said
that he can't really tell me. He just needs instruction on what to do since
its been in here with the same issue before. Its been in the shop for over
two weeks now. I know that they are busy, but come on now. I know that my
local hd dealer has many open bay's to work on a bike if you need it, and
they also will give loaners for the wait. I'm just upset that he's talking
like they might not do anything for me.... Anyone else have problems like
this? Any advise would great! Thanks

I sympathize with you, doin' without your bike for a couple of weeks,
especially this time of year. But I think you might be worrying too much
when you think they might not do anything for you. If you have the YES,
you're covered.
I suspect he's waiting for Yamaha to tell him to try repairing something, or
simply replace it. It probably wouldn't hurt to ask for a loaner,
especially since you've been patient this long. Explain that this is your
season to ride, and you don't have another bike (if that's true), and you'd
appreciate a loaner.
My guess is, you haven't asked, so the dealer hasn't offered.

I just got off the phone with the service manager at my local dealer. He
stated that he spoke with Yamaha and they said that since they replaced the
starter once with the upgraded one that they weren't going to do anything
else. The service manager said that the idle has been lowered and that is
what has caused the damage this time around. They said that they have noted
that the idle has been lowered before when I brought the bike in. I said
then its your fault since I've only had the bike at your shop. He stated to
call Yamaha myself, to see if I can get them to do something, and that they
listen to the customer more than the service dealers. I'm am super hot
about this.... I hope that Yamaha does something for me on this.... If not,
I am never going to buy another Yamaha product and I will make it my life
goal to convince others to do the same. I have loved Yamaha products all my
life until now. I hope that they truly care about their customers.
