A while ago I was asked for advice on how to improve the headlight on my
DX535 Virago.  With some help from the group and some trial and error the HL
is now just passable, easy riding at 50mph but tiresome at 60mph at night.
Anything faster is frankly dangerous.

A new light unit, a high quality Phillips 60/55w xenon bulb and rewiring
through a relay and heavier duty wire so virtually no voltage loss at the
bulb.  A 100/80w bulb did not improve matters noticeably, just ran hot,
actually very hot.

Still like to get better lights although I can certainly live with what I
have now.  All I can think of is to replace the 5 3/4 inch headlight
assembly with a 7 inch full sized jobbie.  I think the extra size, larger
reflector area and opportunity of running a higher wattage bulb (better heat
dissapation) is the way to go.  The alternator simply does not have enough
output to run useful auxilliary lights other than as low wattage passing
lamps.

I need help though.  Where can I source a 7 inch headlight unit that will
fit onto a 535 Virago.  The biggest difficulty is finding one that will bolt
straight on.

Please, does anybody have any ideas.

Thanks as always

Andy
