I have a 1987 Virago 750 that is missing the starter gears inside the engine
block. The starter is there and works, it is the gear assembly inside that
the starter engages to that is missing. I took it to a local dealer, but he
was unable to locate parts for it. He told me that this model was a poorly
designed assembly.
I bought this bike used at a garage sale and it also needs quite a bit of
cosmetic work. Any advise on if it is worth trying to find parts (where?)
or if I should just scrap the bike?

whoa nelly, you have a nice bike there. i don't remember if it's google ot
yahoo, but there are fanatic virago groups where you will get help and parts.
also, get a copy of walneck's classic cycle magazine for 100's of parts
dealers.
keep the baby, faith.

I went by a Yamaha dealer and found out the parts are available NEW!
YEE-HAW!! Next project - restoring this bike!
Any advise on the quality of parts from JC Whitney? I found most the other
parts there, which I assume will be cheaper than dealer prices. But is the
cost savings worth the quality I might be sacrificing?

I need a seat, brake pads, grips, tires, backrest and a windshield.
I went online at walnecks.com, but couldn't find any parts listed online.
Is there a catalog like JC Whitney has? When I go to catalogs and manuals,
it just gives me a phone number to call.
