Some basic questions.... I just got a Vstar 650 Custom and is running it
in now, coming from a VFR800, I accept that this bike is much slower. But
Everytime I'm on the freeway, I am looking for the next gear. I know that
the VFR has 6 gears vs 5 here, but it seems to run at a higher rpm than it
should, sitting on 105 KM/h. I just get the feeling that it should be at
120 KM/h at the revs its doing (confused!?)
Is there anything easy (and cheap) I can do to make the gearing that little
bit taller? I was thinking of getting larger rear tyre in the back - but
what size? And I don't really want to wait till I've used up the thread on
the current tyre.
BTW, does anyone know what are the gear ratios on it at the moment? And
what is its redline? Or any other info to help me calculate rpm vs speed?

Couldn't agree more about this. I have a Virago 535 and always searching
for 6th gear

1100 v stars are the same always looking for the infamous 6th gear which it
could easily handle. I know the older Kawasaki vulcans only had 4 gears and
had the same problem. They added an extra gear in 99 or 2000. somewhere
there.

Can't you change out the sprocket? Or is it shaft drive?

The V-Stars are shaft drive, Sigwings.
