My original XV1100 seat is removed as follows
On each side, just under the front of the seat and above the plastic side
side covers you will see a hex head bolt (5mm allen key).
Undo these (watch for the spacer tube on the bolt) then slide the seat
forward and up over the tank.
Its easier if you take the plastic side covers off but when I took mine off
for the first time I broke one of the cover clips as the plastic had stuck
itself to the rubber mounting probably due to age. If you are taking them
off then the right (Battery) side is pull on all sides. The left (reserve
tank) is pull from the bike rear side then slide the front side to left till
its out of the slots (needs a wiggle) and pull off. A smear of vaseline or
silicone grease on the rubber means they come off easier next time.
