Hi all.
Can anyone tell me the correct way to remove the starter motor from my
XV1100 1992
According to the manual, remove the lead and the 2 securing bolts and it
should pull out.
I know smaller models have a clip inside the left engine cover but
supposedly not on the 1100.
Many thanks
Dan

Bad news I'm afraid, it does have the circlip inside the left cover.
My XV1100 is a 1991 model and I've been through the full starter and starter
clutch rebuild.
If you are reasonably handy with a spanner it is a DIY job but costs for
parts in 2004 were.
Starter one way clutch (non repairable) £140
Starter gear upgrade kit £50
Starter packing shims £2 each
See http://www.vsoc.org.uk/vsoc_faqs/vsoc_faq_1100starter.htm
for a good description and tips.

Thanks for that Bob.
I suppose it will be worth doing the job, I was hoping it would be a lot
simpler and cheaper but never mind
Many thanks again
