What many people do not know is that Yamaha do not do any road testing
of their new Models. These go from drawing board to production line to
buyer, and I am sure there are many who are aware that, as a result
of this Policy, Yamaha is the only Company that has produced a
Motorcycle that had a 100% failure rate in a major component.
This was the result of trying to further cut costs, and they did, in
fact, save about .20 cents per unit, by installing second-rate thrust
washers which led to the failure of their transmissions.
When this was discovered, they corrected the problem, but kept very
quiet about it and did not even let their Dealer's know until all the
affected units were out of warranty.
They have now come up with another catastrophe in the making, and,
once again, it is the result of trying to cut costs.
They have units now that are cheaper because they have reverted to
'belr drives', which were done away with eons ago, because of
reliability problems which develop with age, and they have also futher
cut costs by doing away with liquid cooling.
Well, I have been an Engineer for many, many, years, but my experience
should no even be a factor, because even a 1st year engineering
student could tell them that you DO NOT use air-cooling on a 'V'
engine mounted in a front to back configuration, because the rear
cylinder/s will not be adequately cooled, and this is not rocket
science either, it is just plain and simple common sense.
As usual, when it comes to Yamaha, 'Let the Buyer Beware'.

Except Yamaha.

I always find it amazing how so many individual's who know absolutely
NOTHING about what they comment on, are so quick to refer to others as
"Moron's"
Well, for you and any other idiot's who fall into the same category,
the following is an introduction from Yamaha regarding one of their
Model's which had a 100% failure rate in the transmission, and, I
should add, the same parts which caused these failures, were also used
in the transmission on a number of other models, and you can judge for
yourself how much testing they ^actually^ do, and how much they
actually ^did^ in the many years referred to.
"This model represents the product of many years of Yamaha experience
in the production of fine sporting, touring, and pacesetting racing
machines. You can now appreciate the high degree of craftmanship and
reliability that has made Yamaha a leader in these fields".
