Hi Folks. Just started at 47. I took the MSF course and bought a
Virago250. I just love it, but you know the scoop - already wondering
if I should buy a bigger bike say next year. Here is my question. I
drive to work (literally 10 miles round trip) and for fun. We're not
talking cross country. Problem I have is the power to weight rations on
the V star 650's are not that much more impressive than the Virago! Do
I need to go all the way up to an 1100? As you can tell I want to stay
in the cruiser league.

Steve, the weight of the 1100 is something like 4 pounds more than the
650, but it has a lot more torque.  When Yamaha built the Vstar they
used the same motors as the Virago 535 (punched out to 650) and the
original Virago 1100, but they de-tuned the engine to give it more of a
loping sound (the Harley potato-potato sound).  In the process they
sacrificed 10 to 15 horsepower.  If power is an issue, you may wish to
check out a good used Virago 1100.  They are great bikes and are nearly
bullet proof.

Ride safe.
Serge
