I started riding in 1945 with a James 125 (in a basket.) Couldn't get parts
because of the war so I made them myself. I've gone the superbike route but
due to recent health problems I'd liketo sell my 1980 Yamaha XS1100 Special
and buy a bike half that size. Recomendations for a high milage reliable
machine in the 650 range would be appreciated.

I can only recommend the Yamaha XS 650 and the Honda cb750 they are both
reliable and go the distance and getting parts are not too bad since
they have proven so popular they are making different new parts for them
,one company is actually selling new carbs and intake setup for the
Honda CB 750 .
If you were going to get an XS 650 I would go with the 80's Special 2
nice looking bike and avaible and there are people out there looking to
trade from their nice running 650's to something you got and the 650's
are going up in price too .
Oh just remembered try this site 650motorcycles.com they have some
bikes for sale on their and very interesting site .
good luck

I recently sold my Yamaha V-Max and replaced it with a BMW F650GS. Low
seat height, light weight, narrow width, wide handlebars, 60 mpg. It's
like comparing dancing with Audrey Hepburn to dancing with Rosie
O'Donnell, and I really liked my V-Max.
Good luck.

You just might want to try a scooter instead of a motorcyle. There are some
avaialble in the 400 - 600 cc range that you might like that are quite
capable of keeping up with highway traffic. . I've switched to a scooter
myself, largely because of the step-through frame that doesn't require me to
swing a leg over the seat.
